Soil Health Studies
Soil health studies are biological assessments of contaminated soils using a variety of species. The species represent major trophic levels; microbes, plants and invertebrates, and are used as sensors and detectors of environmental quality. Based on each organism's response, the soils are ranked according to toxicity or health. The response is a direct measure of contaminant bioavailability and can be applied to map out areas of contamination.
Benefits Include:
- Greater assurance of detecting contaminations.
- Due diligence in detection of ecologically harmful substances including those not captured in target lists pf priority substances.
- Integration with chemical analysis programs.
- Overall ecosystem health and potential are determined.
- Effects are less likely to be missed, by utilizing multiple species.
