Cryptosporidium/Giardia Analysis

Giardia lamblia (Beaver Feaver) and Cryptosporidium parvum are microscopic parasites that exist in virtually all rivers, lakes, reservoirs and groundwater wells influenced directly by surface waters. If ingested they are highly infectious and are responsible for causing human illness involving abdominal cramping, diarrhea, dehydration, loss of appetite, etc.

Total Coliform/E. coli Analysis

Total coliforms are a group of bacteria found throughout the environment (soil, runoff water, etc.). Presence of these organisms indicate possible water contamination. Escherichia coli are coliform bacteria found in the gut of warm-blooded animals. The presence of E. coli indicates fecal contamination of water and the potential presence of other human parasites. The test for E. coli provides a more accurate indication of fecal contamination than the fecal coliform test.

Applications for Water Quality Testing

  • Monitoring of pre- and post-treatment drinking water quality
  • Water treatment risk assessment
  • Monitoring of recreational water quality
  • Urban and agricultural related pollution assessments
